Photographers On Safari - Why Our Photo Safaris Are The Best
If you're a seasoned wildlife photographer or perhaps a hobbyist, you will know that the most beautiful wildlife pictures often come from patience.
Traditional safaris in East Africa, and those around the world in general, can be frustrating for photographers. Often, they are set up to not allow enough time at each sighting, and the vehicles can restrict the angles of the shots you can get, especially on group safaris.
We’ve broken down exactly what photographers need on safari, what makes our photo safaris unique, and what you can get from them in our guide below.
What Photographers Need On Safari
The most important thing we think photographers on safari need is flexibility and time. Time to wait for the perfect shot is essential; by watching with patience, we can understand the animals' different behaviours and their next actions.
Flexibility is also key for a great photo safari. We want to avoid shooting at midday when possible, the sun is at its strongest here and can blow out your photos, and it's also not the best time for sightings since animals are often sleeping in the shade.
The best images in terms of action and light tend to be early mornings and evenings, when we can catch the golden hour, which creates stunning images.
Making our safaris photography-friendly also means using photo-friendly vehicles with beanbags, storage, and swivel seats, limiting the capacity to only 3 people per car so you get unobstructed shooting angles and views.
Traditional safaris tend to move from sighting to sighting fairly quickly to view as much wildlife as possible.
What Makes Our Safari Photography Trips Better
So, why go on safari with The Photographers Safari in particular? Well, our safaris are bespoke, offering only a limited number of private and group safaris per year for our photographers, which allows us to have more attention to detail and create a fantastic photography experience, no matter if you're a professional or a hobbyist.
We carefully tailor our group safaris around key seasons such as calving and migration and have our local photography host on board who will be there to answer questions, give tips, and hold photo review sessions at the lodge.
Our on-ground suppliers are also experts in photo safaris and ensure every part of your experience is tailored around you, not only having the best experience but also creating the perfect shots.
